An excerpt from the book, Barbies in the Horse Bin, Living Better with Organized Children… Some days I need to read and follow my own advice! Some days I write things that I really kind of like. Some days I would rather make memes than do my work. Today would be one of those days. Enjoy!
Less is More
You have too much stuff, I can say that with confidence because I have yet to meet anyone that complains about not having enough stuff. That is not entirely true, we do complain about not having certain stuff, like a nice car or a big yacht, but you get the picture. We live in a world that is full, but perhaps it is not full of the right things.
Presenting children with too many things or too many options can be very overwhelming. We foster a frenzied experience to look at more, to grab more, to see what is next, instead of appreciating what is present. A child’s true nature is filled with curiosity and examination and yet we rush them on to the next idea, the next place, the next thing to do. It is hard to stop and smell the roses in our very busy, 24-7 lives, our children will show us how, if we let them.
When we minimize distractions, we are able to focus. When we stop multitasking, we accomplish more. When we stop and think, our minds begin to create. When there is less to do, to be, to have, we are more.
Although it may be counterintuitive, making lists actually helps you do more and less. I love using our summer bucket list because it helps us to prioritize those things we want to do more and it’s funny how we end up doing less by default! Download and share as much as you like! I would love to hear what is on your list and what isn’t! Enjoy!
